back

Who is this two-year program for? This program is for future and emerging leaders who desire to grow in their character and leadership effectiveness through the philosophies and core values of Mosaic. It is specifically designed to be a sending base that propels leaders toward catalyzing the movement of Jesus around the globe…this includes future church planters and pastors, as well as ministry-focused entrepreneurs.

What is the admission process? Apply for the Protégé Program (Applications accepted anytime throughout the year)

Protege Application fee of $65 due at time of applying (check payable to Mosaic)

Once application received, there will be an initial phone interview and then a series of in-person interviews in Los Angeles (details to be worked out after application received)

If accepted by Mosaic, apply to Fuller Seminary (www.fuller.edu) or Golden Gate Seminary (www.ggbts.edu) — As partners in the Protege Program, the Golden Gate and Fuller application process is independent to the Mosaic application process, and there are application costs on their end as well.

Inform Fuller or Golden Gate that you’re potentially going to be part of the Mosaic Protege Program (so that you can receive a tuition discount — notate that you are a potential Mosaic Protege for the Fuller App, and notate that you’re part of a SBC church for the Golden Gate app to receive the appropriate discount)

Application fee to Fuller is $75 and to Golden Gate is $35

How does the course schedule work? Proteges take 2-3 courses at a time, some courses are weekly in the classroom, others online, some are intensive format, and a couple are built around leadership conferences.

What is an example of the week in the life of a Protégé? There are a lot of variations depending on your ministry area, job situation, and other scheduling dynamics. However, here’s brief sketch:

Sundays: All Protégés serve 6-8 hours either in their specific ministry areas or with setup/tear down or Sunday production responsibilities.

Mondays: Could be an Office Day or a work day for proteges who work a part-time job — An office day may include following up with guests from Mosaic on Sunday, organizing your week, finishing schoolwork, emailing, etc. Protégés can come to the Mosaic Offices and interact with paid staff and other volunteer leaders.

Tuesdays: Class Day - There are 1-2 classes on Tuesdays (could also be a work day)

Wednesdays: Protégé Focus Day - Weekly meetings with the Protégé cohort. Proteges attend weekly learning labs/small group discussions, and may also meet one-on-one with mentors or coaches.

Thursdays: Could be a work day for those working a part-time job; Or could be a ministry day for meetings, one on ones, preparing talks, organizing events, etc.

Fridays: Sabbath - We encourage Protégés to take Friday or Saturday as their Sabbath

Saturdays: Open/Floating Day - Sometimes there are Mosaic Events like Yelo, Elements, Baptism, etc.

Evenings: There are usually a couple evenings where stuff is going on (small groups, leadership team meetings, ministries or events done on college or high school campuses, etc.)

*We try to accommodate those protégés who work outside jobs, and allow proteges to work up to 25 hours per week (jobs may include Substitute Teaching, UPS, Starbucks, or other jobs related to a protege’s job skills or networking opportunities, etc.)

Is financial aid available at Golden Gate and/or Fuller? Yes. Contact Golden Gate or Fuller Seminary for further details. There are various ways to receive scholarships both as an incoming student and as an existing student. Go to the Golden Gate website and apply if you are interested. For Fuller, you’re able to apply through the application process for financial aid.
Can I work a part-time job and/or raise financial support? We require every protégé to serve a minimum of 20 hours per week at Mosaic, while also allotting approximately 10-15 hours per week for courses, course work, and learning labs. It’s up to each protégé whether they raise financial support or work part-time (up to 25 hours per week). We want each protégé to have enough financial support to free them to fully engage Mosaic for 2 years and optimize their experience. You can work an outside job if you prefer, and/or you can raise financial support through your network of family and friends. If you do choose to work, remember the program needs to take priority over your job, especially in terms of scheduling, but we do recommend this, and working a part-time job is what most proteges do. What areas of ministry can a protégé serve? Any ministry area at Mosaic it an option, and we dialogue with you about finding your talents, strengths, and passions to serve in an arena where you’ll both learn, develop, and contribute. Ministries at Mosaic included are kids Mosaic, jr. high, high school, college, music, film, drama, painting, sculpting, dance, connections, administrative, men’s, women’s, IT/web design, tech support, stage design, production and more. How do I begin raising financial support? If someone selected into the program, we’ll get them started in the support-raising process with initial over-the-phone training, including sample letters, explanation of best practices, etc. We also recommend a book called People Raising to get them thinking.[back to top]
Does Mosaic help with housing or getting a job? Every protege is responsible for finding their own housing and job (if needed). Mosaic is a multi-site church with campuses in Pasadena, Beverly Hills, Hermosa Beach, Downtown LA, Chino, and Whittier (look at Google Maps to find out specific locations). Also, the Mosaic offices are located in Pasadena, on the campus of William Carey International University where temporary housing is provided for about $500 per month (for a single), but for most people, this is simply a place for only a month or two. It’s dorm-like housing and includes a weekly meal plan from an on-campus cafeteria. This could be a place to start until you get adjusted to Los Angeles and find something more long-term. Contact Irina for more information: irina.tamazyan@wciu.edu. Let us know if you have specific questions. Please note that marriage-student housing is also available but limited.[back to top]
If I get accepted, when should I move to LA? The program usually begins the first or second week of August depending on the year. More detailed information upon acceptance. [back to top]
What is the cost of living in Los Angeles? Previous protégés have said that after they moved to Los Angeles, they realized that there were higher costs than expected. In Los Angeles, people drive more than in most cities, so gas can be costly. There’s also a culture of social activity, as people frequently go out for food, coffee, movies, etc. Higher costs also come in the form of groceries, clothes, car maintenance, etc. Of course, living with other protégé would be a great idea! And planning for a higher cost of living than what most people have is to be expected and planned for (estimated budget for protege below).

Example of housing:
Price (monthly)
1 Bedroom $800-$1400
2 Bedroom $1000-$1800
