Hi, this has nothing to do with the news letter, but I just needed to say this anyway. I’m a student at Liberty University majoring in youth ministry so when Jason Jaggard came and spoke to us in convocation on Wednesday this week I was very interested in what he had to say.
After hearing a little bit about your church watching some of your videos and thinking about your ministry alot all I can say is you have an amazing church. This is something I’ve been looking for all my life and something I actually have always wanted to model my ministry after when I am actually a youth pastor some day.
I just wish there was a church like yours in Lynchburg VA. As I think he said it a place for the “freaks of LA”… I think every city needs to be a church for the freaks and outcasts of society. After all they are the ones Jesus went to. I think there is a big misunderstanding about this in the church today.
Even my home church in Indiana is not quite here, and they are probably the closest you can get to that in my area. The youth ministry was better, but the rest of the church still has some issues to overcome.
Anyway I just wanted to thank you for your church and your ministry and the encouragement you were to me on Wednesday. It’s nice to know I’m not the only rebbel/Christian/freak for Jesus out there who feels this way.
Erwin–
I have been greatly impacted by your messages at Promise Keepers and through your books.
Right now, I am reading (devouring?) “Soul Cravings”. It is so applicable to our outreach to people struggling with unwanted same-sex attractions or other aspects of sexual brokeness.
We hope for all people to feel welcome here.
Yes, there is a place for the “freaks” in the central Gulf coast area of Florida.
Thank you for living it out.
I just had to let ya’ll know what an awesome book “The Barbarian Way” is! I am the Chair of our churches Global Outreach Leadership Team and intend on passing on this great book to them. As a matter of fact it was given to me by our team Prayer Leader. You hit so many key points it would be hard to address just one (I took 6 typed pages of notes from my 1st reading alone).
The unfortunate thing is that I belong to an old (150 years old) deep south UMC and changing old ways is very very difficult. But armed with new information and enthusiasm from reading your book I will continue to persue the changing of hearts in our congregation.
Today being 7/26/2007, I happened to tune in to
your interview through Trinity Broadcast Network.
Your exchange of spiritual awakenings and beliefs
were exciting and refreshing and fulfilling -bringing great truth and hope to my soul.
I understood you have written the book entitled
“Uprising.” To be honest, I missed much detail
relative to exactly who you were (name) being interviewed.
In reading the other messages left here, I am
noticing much interest from Florida. That is my home base too.
My best wishes and prayers for your continued
successful outreach ministry.
Dear Patricia, thank you for your comment on our Mosaic webpage. If you are still looking for the name of our “Cultural Architect” here at Mosaic, who wrote “Uprising”, he is Erwin McManus. Erwin also has his own website at erwinmcmanus.com
if one desired to lead a group (not an individual) to radical (normal?)followership of jesus christ where would one begin?
living in central nc, where everyone (it seems)”knows” the Christ, followership is replaced with membership. If one is a “member” of a local church then it is assumed by that individual that he/she knows the lord.
